INVESTOR INSIGHTS REPORT (February)

The following are some key observations of the TSX and TSX Venture Exchange markets:

1. BACK TO POSITIVE

After a rough January, February saw overall gains in the top 3 market cap segments: +3% in Large Cap, +2% in Mid Cap and Small Cap, while the Micro Cap segment was flat.

2. ENERGY SECTOR REMAINS STRONG

As the situation in Ukraine worsened in late February, the price of oil increased as did the sector. Oil and Gas was the top performing sector in the Mid Cap (+9%) and Small Cap (+7%) segments and finished second in the other two market cap segments, but with higher returns (+12% in Large Cap and +14% in Micro Cap).

3. MATERIALS TOP PERFORMING INDEX

The S&P/TSX Materials Index was the top performing index in February at +13%. The S&P/TSX Energy Index was the second best performer at +8%.

4. TRADING VALUE DOWN

The dollar value traded in February is down nearly 50% compared to February 2021, but relatively flat compared to January 2022. This is understandable considering the massive rise in retail trading early last year.
